LIZ LONDON ARTIST STATEMENT Liz London’s artwork explores the realms and depths of what she feels is her own inner transformation by identifying personal archetypes’, historical and mythological stories. Her original art pieces continue a stream of consciousness and creative enigma throughout all aspects of her life documented by using items that are identified by deep symbolism and layered abstractions. Blending different levels paint with mixed media, her art work provides visual form in honoring what we often perceive as ordinary throughout our day to day lives transforming seemingly mundane human experiences into profound significance, such as coincidences becoming synchronicities and serendipitous opportunities to grow and learn. What is hidden or partially revealed on her work is just as important aspect of her work as what is seen, much like the excavation of an ancient civilization that may provide a clue or a lost link reconnecting us to question our lives for meaning through spirit, God or faith or individual path. As inspiration she often uses photography, found objects and paper from explorations throughout her travels, dreams, vivid imaginings and inner journeys, capturing forgotten and abandoned landscapes, figurative poses, combined with symbolic representations from all over the world and across time. Discarded personal detritus or found objects placed on surfaces evoke a sense of history meant to question or incite new ideas within the viewer that may alter one’s current stream of consciousness. In each painting or sculpture, what is left behind is a reoccurring theme or symbol in the work, something that is missing within, a clue a puzzle that beckons the viewer to be found. Fictional landscapes recall the passage of time and create a mysterious, surreal and emotional sense of place. Ms London states that, “The art I create is not meant to be literally narrative but may be left open to individual's interpretation and hopefully self discovery and connect at some level or identify some of their personal symbols, memories or dreams.” “I am learning that my art is a philosophical exploration and that art making involves a mysterious process of self-discovery." says London. She considers herself an abstract impressionist/expressionist artist, the painting being most importantly about composition, form, shape and color much like her predecessors during the Transcendental Painting Movement. (New Mexico 1938-1942) "One of the primary purposes of the ego is to look for ways to create and simultaneously avoid discontent.” Liz London RESUME' LIZ LONDON 2006 The Cerulean Gallery, Snider Plaza, Dallas, TX , “Convergence” November 3-December 12th The Cerulean Gallery, Snider Plaza, Dallas, Texas, “Stories Told” September 22-October 30th One Woman Show, The Women’s Museum, A Smithsonian Museum Affiliate, Dallas, TX, National Geographic Women’s Photographers Gallery Show The Cerulean Gallery, Snider Plaza, Dallas, TX, "Dimensions" May 19-June 27, Artist's Showplace, Dallas, TX, 2006 Annual Juried Artist's Show, by Miles Batt, Juried Winner for Aquarium Art Institute of Mc Kinney, TX, 2006 Members Juried Show, Juried Winner for Astronaut The Rupp Fine Art Gallery, Plano, TX representation 2005 Marriott Art Gallery, Orlando, FL, winter show, 2005 Marriott Art Gallery, Orlando, FL, spring show, 2005 Urban Think, Nude Arty Party Show, Thornton Park, Orlando, Fl, 2005 Urban Think, Arty Party “Red” Valentine’s Show, Thornton Park, Orlando, FL, 2005 2004 Urban Think, Arty Party Show, Thornton Park, Orlando, Florida Colonial Art Gallery, Representation, OKC, OK 2004 2003 Colonial Art Gallery, Representation, OKC, OK 2002 Liz London One Woman Show, Gabriella's, OKC, OK The Sedona Art Gallery, Juried Gallery Show, Sedona, AZ 1996 City Arts Show, Dorothy Moses Show, OKC, OK 1994 OVAC, Oklahoma Visual Artist's Coalition, member's show, City Art's OKC, OK 1992 University of Central Oklahoma Student Graduate Show, Sculpture Winner, Edmond, OK Classical Education University of Central Oklahoma, Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, Edmond, OK 1992 |
