Virginia Marum

All classes will be taught by Virginia Marum, the newest addition to Cerulean Gallery.  Marum holds a B.A. in Art History and a B.A. in Printmaking from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  She has taught classes in Figure Drawing, Printmaking, Bookmaking, and Art History to both students at UC Santa Cruz and privately.  She has worked alongside internationally known artist and author, Makiko Okamoto, and Crown Point Press printer and author, Emily York.  She worked as an apprentice to the master printer at Josephine Press and later as the director of the Christopher John Gallery.  Marum has also worked with notable printers and artists John Cage, Michael McMillian, and Raymond Pettibon.  Her work has shown in numerous individual and group exhibitions throughout LA as well as published in one of Sunset Magazine’s design issues.

Drawing Board with clips at least 18” x 24” (a flat hard surface with clips will also work)

18x24" Newsprint Pad

18x24" White Drawing Pad (Strathmore 400 series paper is a good choice)

Old Cotton Rag or paper towels

Razor blade or exacto knife

Pencil sharpener

Vine Charcoal (Soft) - at least 6

Charcoal Sticks (compressed), Soft & Extra Soft

Conte Crayon in Black

Erasers: Kneaded and Pink Pearl

HB Pencil

Masking Tape

Sumi or India Ink with #6Round Paint Brush (you may bring a variety of brushes)

Strathmore Drawing paper in Grey or Beige
