Jonathan Millet
Jonathan Millet lives with his wife, Jennifer and their four children in Rowlett, Texas where he works from his studio, a converted barn. His artwork explores the combination of the digital image in the printmaking process with his own juxtaposed printed, painted and drawn personal images. Jonathan’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States, in England and in Spain. Jonathan first received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Biola University in Los Angeles, California. In New York, he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. It was at Pratt that Jonathan was able to refine his technical skills in many of the disciplines in the area of Printmaking. In 1992, Jonathan and Jennifer moved back to their hometown in Dallas, Texas where Jonathan was hired to teach art at Trinity Christian Academy, a K-12 college preparatory school in the suburbs of Dallas. “My artwork employs both symbolic images and personal motifs, which reflect on the ordinary qualities of life in proximity to the sublime. I am interested in the exploration of how life is often seemingly compartmentalized, but yet reflects a purposeful course in which we find ourselves often stumbling down. We have our personal lives, our professional lives, our social lives and so forth. We wear varied hats in our lives with our occupation, as a spouse, as a friend, as a relative, perhaps as a parent or a mentor, even as an acquaintance, and so on. Often it seems as if there is randomness to these roles that we are entangled in, motivated by and exposed to. I often wonder how events and relationships in my life, both mundane and insightful work together for any common purpose. Yet, I cling to a promise from the Lord that “all things work together for good to those that love Him and are called according to His purpose”. As I pursue a singular goal in life, to seek God, I find myself constantly distracted and bombarded by the many compartments of life. My goal is constantly obscured and diffused, fragmenting my vision and pursuit. The greatest contradiction, however, lies in the fact that these very obstacles, which obscure also, enlighten, coerce and mold me toward that very same goal. They, in fact, are utilized as the very tools and instruments needed to unify my pursuit. My artwork employs both symbolic images and personal motifs incorporated into a composition, which seek to reflect this random compartmentalization. At the same time, these components maintain the integrity, unity and singularity to the overall balance of the imagery. My goal is to reflect on the varied components of my life, as logical or illogical as they may appear, as instruments in the process of Sanctification.
