Michael Longhofer

MichaeL's paintings, ranging from cityscapes to contemplative figure studies, are a chronicle of both places he has seen or imagined. His contemporary realistic approach draws on a painterly tradition.

Longhofer's somewhat modern scenes are at once familiar yet foreign. Some are places the viewer recognizes while others have a dream-like quality. Perspective and depth draw the viewer into the piece. Buildings and figures are painted with intense contrast. Colors burst out of the canvas with an otherworldly light. The skies are beautiful and mysterious. Michael's contemporary abstracts are painted with layers of colors that puddle up like rain on glass.

Michael Longhofer earned a B.F.A. from The Laguna College of Art and Design. He currently resides in Dallas, Texas showing at Fine Art Festivals and Galleries. Michael also does artwork including: commissioned paintings, landscapes, murals, and custom hand painted art boxes. He appreciates the time you have spent viewing the artwork. His work is worth investigating! Artist Statement

Statement

I paint because I have a passion to do so.  That passion began in early childhood and continues to grow to this day.  I love everything about it.........the creative process, the ability to express emotions, the blending of color and the smell of paint.  I can't imagine a world without it.  It is who I am and what I do.

The subject matter of my paintings ranges from contemporary cityscapes and landscapes to figure studies. They are a chronicle of both my life experience and my imagination.  My style of painting is realistic and my technique has been called "painterly"....perhaps because it is sometimes reminiscent of the style of the old masters.  Perspective, depth and value are key components of my work, as well as the use of color to create the illusion of light that sets the mood of the piece. I have also started to experiment with abstracts and hand painted wooden boxes.

I live in the DFW Metroplex area, working fulltime as a painter. I earned my B.F.A. from “The Laguna Beach College of Art and Design” in California. My commissioned works include cityscapes, landscapes, portraits, murals and colorful abstracts.
