DOUBLE VISION

Many of my interior and still life paintings made during the last twenty years have included images within images. Now, in this series of landscapes which are inspired by my travels through Texas and Northern New Mexico, I have focused on multiple images that reflect differences in time and space. I invite the viewer to experience the various landscapes as I have, focusing on distant objects, then the foreground, or perhaps my memory of the same scene at different times of the day. These paintings are about my visual, emotional and intellectual reaction to the landscapes around me.

My use of paper instead of canvas reflects my love for the feel and look of handmade paper and my earlier life as primarily a watercolor painter. I use 300 - 500 pound Arches cold press paper, which I gesso back and front before I begin the painting. These paintings are then floated on panels inside frames that have also become paintings.
