Robert P. McGraw has studied art his entire life. Born in Dallas, he attended Trinity Christian Academy and received his degree in advertising from Southern Methodist University. His works feature heavy symbolism and studies of life cycles through nature: creation, destruction, manipulation and rebirth. Each piece goes though an extensive process which frequently consist of almost equal quantities of destruction as creation. The layers are applied and then subsequently removed leaving sometimes only a trace of there existence. McGraw treats his subject with the same importance as the message he works to convey through that subject, stating how the subject is studied should be as serious as the art itself and reflect the importance of meaning. McGraw interprets his personal experiences into visual form, and uses the layering of patterns and mediums to develop depth in his artistic “perspective”.
