Elsa “Aurora” Sherrell

Elsa Aurora was born in Mexico and then grew up on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.  She proudly earned her B.F.A. from the prestigious School of The Art Institute of Chicago after studying abroad in the romantic destinations of Florence, Rome and Venice.  While abroad, Elsa quickly discovered their secret to life in Italy…Passion!  Their passion for life ignited a flame within her of creativity and how she saw the world around her changed forever.

Elsa’s life journey then brought her back to the United States to complete her studies.  She vowed to always remember the happiest time in her life and to find a way through art to express the gift….”The Renaissance” that her heart had felt.

Elsa is still exploring the effects of pure color, the dynamics of line, textured forms and materials to best express her inner self celebrating life.  Most recently her sculptures are figurative abstracts using steel, stone bronze and wood.  In her paintings, Elsa prefers to use a pallet knife to navigate wet on wet acrylic paint, pushing and scraping up paint as to sculpt out shapes from the layers.  Elsa has challenged herself to create work that is contemporary in style but has classical influences and all the while trying to keep the integrity of both.

As a visual artist Elsa is constantly inspired by nature. Her intentions with her sculptures and paintings are simple, to encourage the viewer to experience joy and to entertain their imagination.  After many years in the commercial world of advertising and TV-productions, Elsa rededicated her life to her true passions, her daughters and creating art.

Elsa has since been actively producing commissions and participating in group shows.  She currently works and lives in Dallas, TX
