Robin Hazard

Robin Hazard graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.  With a major in Studio Art and a minor in Art History, Hazard combined her ability to paint, draw and make prints with her interest in the Old Masters, artists of the Italian Renaissance, and the more contemporary artists Henri Matisse, Henry Moore, and Milton Avery.

At SMU, Hazard studied under Roger Winter who, in 1983, chose Hazard’s early drawings to be part of the Creative Process – Drawing Symposium held at the Kimbell Museum in Ft. Worth, Texas.  She furthered her career in Dallas with the Dallas Women’s Caucus for the Arts and many group exhibitions.

Known for her oversized oil paintings and intensely hued abstract pastels, Hazard’s focus has primarily centered on the landscapes of her previous home in Arkansas, as well her visits to the south Texas coast at Rockport.  The contrast between the Arkansas and Texas landscapes is as striking as the juxtaposition of colors and shapes in her work.  As opposed to the wooded terrain of Arkansas, Rockport is a small fishing town where the skies are huge, the live oaks are bent from the strong coastal winds and the bays are dotted with giant palms and wade fishermen.

Hazard served as the Artist in Residence for the Hot Springs National Park in December 2004, where she painted “How Small Are We?” In this painting, Hazard expresses a personal paradox between her acknowledgement of her brief existence in this world with her profound confidence to create bold and beautiful works of art.

Hazard has been an integral part of the Garvan Woodland Gardens Plein Air painting event in Hot Springs since it’s beginnings in 2001. She has been selected to exhibit in the Arts in the Air at the Rockefeller Institute in 2007 and 2008.

In 2008 Hazard’s painting “Sliver Moon Above The Pines” was selected for the Governor’s Mansion, Arkansas Artists Calendar.  “Moon, Star and Firefly” was chosen to exhibit at United States Senator, Mark Pryor’s office, and, her work exhibited with 15 other Arkansas artists in China, first at a museum sponsored by the Chinese Government, and later at a gallery in Shanghai.

2011 brought many changes for the artist. Hazard joined Gallery Central in Hot Springs, Boswell Mourot Fine Art in Little Rock, and Boswell Mourot Fine Art in Miami.  In May of 2012 Hazard exhibited in a TWO MAN SHOW at Boswell Mourot Fine Art, in Little Rock, Arkansas with artist Astrid Sohn.

Hazard opened in March of 2013, in Miami and Little Rock respectively, at Boswell Mourot Fine Art with Hans Feyerabend.  She also joined Artifacts in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  In August 2014, the artist was featured in Pastel Journal with an article by Carole Katchen titled “Crank Up The Color.”  Hazard opened an exhibit at John Brown University titled “Saturation Point II” in September,2014 and another opening at Boswell Mourot Fine Art in Little Rock in November, titled “Movement of Line.”  January 15, 2015, Hazard joined Cerulean Gallery, Amarillo for their opening exhibition, “Out of the Blue” and again in July for “Ephemera Suspended.”  In January 2016 Hazard exhibited in the Gallery’s First Anniversary Exhibition, “Recollection.”  Entering 2017, Hazard exhibited in both the Cerulean Gallery’s Anniversary Exhibition, “The Sky’s the Limit,” in January and “An Eye Full,” which opened in March.  Hazard is so excited to announce that in March of 2017, Estelle Stair Gallery in Rockport, Texas is also representing her work.

Hazard moved to Rockport, Texas in the fall of 2015 where she is enjoying a new life and returning home to Texas!
